Poland to Simplify Work Permit Rules for Foreigners in 2026

Starting April 2026, Poland will introduce simpler work permit rules aimed at making it easier for immigrants to start or change jobs. The Ministry of Labour announced that the changes are part of a plan to address labour shortages in industries like construction, hospitality, healthcare, and logistics.
What’s Changing?
- No More Employer-Specific Lock-In
Currently, a work permit in Poland is tied to one specific employer. If you change jobs, you must go through the whole permit process again — sometimes waiting months.
Under the new rules, work permits will be linked to your profession/industry instead of a single employer.- Example: If you have a permit as a “chef,” you can work for any restaurant without reapplying.
- Faster Processing Times
Voivodeship Offices will have a maximum of 30 working days to issue or update a permit.
If they fail to meet this deadline, your application will be automatically considered approved. - Online Renewal System
You’ll be able to renew your work permit fully online through the praca.gov.pl portal.
Digital copies of contracts and ID will be accepted — no more unnecessary in-person visits unless there’s a problem. - Easier Seasonal Work Rules
Seasonal workers (e.g., in agriculture or tourism) will get permits valid for 9 months instead of 6, giving more stability and avoiding mid-season renewals.
Who Benefits?
- Workers in restaurants, hotels, cleaning services, warehouses, delivery, construction, healthcare.
- Seasonal workers from countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova.
- Employers who often lose workers due to slow bureaucracy.
What Immigrants Should Do Now
If your current permit expires in 2026 or later, it’s worth waiting for the new system to avoid unnecessary delays. Also, keep your documents (passport, residence card, job contract) updated for a smooth transition.
